Steamed, Buttered Cabbage

  The serving size really depends on how much you like cabbage. I think each adult can eat about a quarter of a cabbage.

Ingredients:
  1 head   cabbage
  1/2 c.   water
  4 T.   butter
  1 tsp.   sugar
  1 tsp.   salt
  1/2 tsp.   black pepper
Directions:
  In a 4-qt. sauce pan over high heat, combine the water, butter, sugar, salt and pepper. Cover and bring to a boil.

Cut the cabbage into quarters. Cut the core from the quarters and remove any wilted or discolored outer leaves. Cut the quarters into large chunks (about 12 per head of cabbage).

Add the cabbage chunks to the boiling water. Cook, covered, until cabbage is tender (15-20 min.).
